Aria (아리아) is the seventh sub-unit and first ballad sub-unit of tripleS. They made their debut on January 15, 2024 with their single album, Structure of Sadness, and the title track, “Door”.
The lineup consists of Lee JiWoo, Kim ChaeYeon, Kaede, Seo DaHyun and Nien; with members being selected through the Ballad Dimension gravity.
History[]
2023: Formation[]
On November 18, tripleS' ninth gravity, titled "Grand Gravity: Ballad Dimension", was announced, to determine the five members of the upcoming ballad sub-unit. DaHyun was confirmed before voting began as a pre-picked member by staff. A live draw was held on November 21 to select the members that made up the seven combinations fans would be voting for. The gravity took place from the 22nd to the 24th, with combination D, consisting of JiWoo, ChaeYeon, Kaede and Nien winning.
From November 28-30, the tenth gravity, titled "Event Gravity: Ballad Dimension Name", was held, allowing fans to vote for the sub-unit's official name. Beforehand, modhaus had opened the pre-gravity channel in the official discord for fans to send in their name suggestions. From nine suggestions, Aria was determined as the unit's name on November 30.[1]
On SIGNAL #408, Aria began recording their title track at the MonoTree studio. On December 12, it was reported that soloist HEIZE, had written Aria's debut song's lyrics. It was also confirmed that there would be multiple tracks, suggesting either a single or mini album release.[2]
On SIGNAL #416, the sub-unit filmed the music video of their ballad song. A caption during the episode's ending stated that Aria is the first ballad unit, implying that there would be more units in the future. A statement on December 28 reaffirms this as a fact, with the update clarifying that Aria's debut would include the limited edition release of platform or QR albums and that they would only be having a brief broadcasting period.[3]
2024: Debut with Structure of Sadness[]
On January 1, 2024, the first video teaser for Aria's upcoming single album's title track, Door was released. Teasers were released a day after, starting with Kaede on January 2nd, Nien on the 3rd, DaHyun on the 4th, ChaeYeon on the 5th, JiWoo on the 6th, and the group teaser on the 7th. A tracklist was then released on the 8th and the album's highlight medley was posted on the 13th.
On January 15, Aria's first single album Structure of Sadness was officially released, along with the music video for Door.
