EVOLution (Hangul: 에볼루션) is tripleS' fourth sub-unit. They made their debut on October 11, 2023, with the mini album, MUJUK, and the title track, “Invincible”.
The lineup was decided through the Two Big WAVes Grand Gravity in April 2023 and consists of members, Lee JiWoo, Kim ChaeYeon, Kim YooYeon, Kim SooMin, Kim NaKyoung, Kotone, Kwak YeonJi and Mayu.
History
2023: Formation & Debut
On April 20th, tripleS' fourth gravity event was announced, titled Second Grand Gravity. It was to determine the lineups for the two new sub-units, EVOLution and LOVElution. S15 was determined as an EVOLution member pre-gravity.
YooYeon was revealed as the first member on April 22, followed by ChaeYeon on the 23rd, NaKyoung on the 24th, JiWoo on the 25th, Kotone on the 26th, SooMin on the 27th, and YeonJi on the 28th. On the last day of the Gravity, EVOLution was determined to promote after LOVElution, making them the group's fifth sub-unit. Mayu was revealed as the final member of the unit when she was revealed as S16 on July 19th.
On August 17th, it was stated that EVOLution would make their debut on October 4th.[1] On August 18th, EVOLution started filming their music video.[2] On September 1st, it was announced that EVOLution's debut would be postponed to October 11th to not coincide with the Chuseok holiday and the Asian Games.[3]
Concept photos for the members started releasing on September 18th daily, starting with NaKyoung followed by Mayu, SooMin, Kotone, JiWoo, YeonJi, ChaeYeon, and lastly YooYeon.
EVOLution's broadcast promotional period for ⟡ concluded on October 29, 2023, with their second broadcast performance on Inkigayo.[4]
Concept
EVOLution's concept involves tripleS' main storyline of "Among the girls inhabiting Earth, there are some who hold special abilities. We decided to call these girls with special abilities, s, through Dimension, the girls of tripleS join forces and demonstrate each of their abilities". As well as this, the concept revolves around self-love and being invincible like a diamond.
Through the Invincible music video, YooYeon is shown to have intangibility, JiWoo is shown to have Telekinesis with Telekinesis Destruction and NaKyoung is shown to have Explosion Manipulation. Mayu is shown to be manipulating the lights which could suggest that she has Energy Manipulation.
