Mayu (Hangul: 마유; Kanji: 真友) is a Japanese idol under MODHAUS and the sixteenth revealed member of tripleS. She was revealed as S16 and the final member of tripleS' fourth sub-unit, EVOLution, on July 19, 2023.
Mayu made her debut in tripleS' fourth sub-unit, EVOLution, with the mini album, MUJUK, and the title track, “Invincible”, on October 11, 2023.
She is a member of the sub-unit EVOLution and the leader of the sub-unit Hatchi.
History[]
Early life[]
Mayu was born as Kōma Mayu (高麗 真友) on May 12, 2002 in Tomioka, Gunma, Japan. She had wanted to become a K-Pop idol since middle school, however her parents were against the idea and so she continued her education. She attended Meiji University in Tokyo where she studied economics and worked part-time at a Korean restaurant. At some point in the early 2020s, Mayu decided that she couldn't give up on her dream and entered the Japanese talent academy Bloom Academy.[2]
Mayu was scouted by MODHAUS twice. She was already cast by another company prior to being scouted by MODHAUS on Instagram, so she did not reply there. A separate MODHAUS scouter had also reached out to her academy, after which she auditioned and ultimately decided to accept MODHAUS's offer.[3]
2023: Reveal, Debut & AUS Tour[]
On April 20, before her reveal, Mayu was confirmed to be the eighth and last member of one of the then newly announced sub-units, EVOLution.
On July 15, S16's teaser drop image was released. On July 19, Mayu was revealed as the group's sixteenth member through her introductory video. She moved into the Cookie HAUS on July 24, becoming roommates with Kaede and Nien.
On October 11, Mayu made her official debut with tripleS' fourth sub-unit, EVOLution, with their mini album, <⟡>, and the title track, “Invincible”. Along with the rest of EVOLution, she participated in the Australian leg of the <Authentic> Tour from the December 20-23.
2024: Seoul Tour, ASSEMBLE24, Hash, Japan Dimension[]
Between February 3-4, Mayu participated in the Seoul leg of the <Authentic> Tour alongside LOVElution, EVOLution and NXT members.
She made her first comeback with tripleS' first studio album, ASSEMBLE24, and the title track, “Girls Never Die” on May 8. Due to her thank you message being omitted from the album and overseen during the album production, MODHAUS issued a statement that they would provide a corrected "Thanks To" page in PDF format. They also stated they plan to create and gift a mini photobook featuring Mayu, with new unseen images and cuts from daily moments. The PDF format version will be for free and they will produce a limited quantity of physical versions at an inexpensive price.[4]
On July 18, Mayu was selected as a MODHAUS pick for the upcoming Japanese sub-unit.[5] On July 20, tripleS released their OT24 pre-debut Japanese single, "Hash", with Mayu alongside unit B performing it at ODAIBA Adventure King 2024 on the same day. On September 26, Mayu was announced as the leader of Hatchi!.
