WAV (Hangul: 웨이브, pronounced WAVE) is tripleS's official fandom name. It was officially established on April 10, 2023 via the Fandom Name Event Gravity.
Meaning[]
The gravity description for WAV was “tripleS will be sailing to a bigger world with fans' waves, just as connecting SSS becomes a wave.”
“WAV” can also contain a double meaning between ocean waves and radio waves. NASA states “A radio wave is generated by a transmitter and then detected by a receiver. An antenna allows a radio transmitter to send energy into space and a receiver to pick up energy from space.”[1], suggesting that WAVs are the transmitters and tripleS are the receivers. It also links to the core of tripleS identity of dimensions and signals.
History[]
Before the official fandom name was established, the placeholder name for Cosmo users was "Master". Fans expressed discontent with the choice of name and it was later clarified in Discord by the community manager, JPark, that it was not the official fandom name for the group.[2] Over time, a fan-chosen name was adopted by online (mostly) international fans: "swisse", which was a play on the word "swiss" and cheese emotes were made for the members in the official discord. The name also had a double meaning and was a combination of the letter S for tripleS and "Wisse", meaning "to guide/to teach/to direct" in old English.[3]
The third gravity, titled "Event Gravity: Fandom Name", was announced on March 27, 2023 and took place between April 8-10 for a duration of forty-eight hours. From March 28-April 7, fans could submit names in the pre-gravity channel on discord. Seven options were finalized: everS, Byte, AxiS, SwiSSe, WAV, Link and CosmoSSS.[4] On April 10, WAV was announced as the official fandom name for tripleS, winning with a total of 43,962 COMO out of the 101,909 used.

1st Fanclub Recruitment[]
On August 30, 2024, tripleS announced their first WAV Fanclub Membership, tripleS Diner.[5] The recruitment period was between September 2-30.
WAV Japan[]
On September 11, tripleS announced their Japanese fanclub recruitment, WAV Japan, along with benefits for the Japan 1st Showcase 'Hash'.[6]
